Hi! Welcome to my blog!

Quite honestly, I am somewhat amazed---this 61 year old grandmother of 13, blogging! I didn't even know what blogging was a year ago. With the combination of passion for writing and passion for kids, I realized that blogging would be a good way to share the things I have learned through the journey of raising 4 kids.

As a little girl, my favorite thing to play was "babies" with my favorite baby dolls. As a starry eyed teen I dreamed of marrying and having 10 kids! God saw otherwise and blessed my hubby and me with THE 4 best kids in all the world and added 4 more with our "in-love" kids! Lest you think me too cheesey or syrupey, hang with me and you will see that I learned that raising kids is not for the weak of heart or stomach. Through the writing of this blog, I hope to give you some thoughts and words that will help you along in your often treacherous and hopefully MORE often, DELIGHTFUL journey of growing your kids. With forty years of experience as a mother, I have learned by sheer blood, sweat, tears, and untold hours on my knees in prayer, some things that work and some that don't. It is my hope and prayer that through this blog, you will glean from the things that I learned as a mother. Now, as I have the indescribable privilege of being grandmother (more affectionately known as their "Ninny") to the grandest 13 grandkids on the face of the earth, I am learning even more about the growing of kids, with a little different perspective and understanding.

The title of the blog came directly from the philosophy that I adopted in raising our kids. Ours was the "Kool Aid" house. For those of you who were not more than a twinkle in your parents' eyes in the 60's and 70's, there were commercials on television for Kool Aid that told of the neighborhood gathering place for kids--the home where there was always Kool Aid to be had. Well, ours was that place, the place the kids all hung out. Consequently, our front yard became the neighborhood kickball field, which produced a yard with a perfect dirt diamond worn in it with the remaining grass holding on for dear life! One day, a visitor stopped by, strategically dodging kids and balls as she made her way to the front door. As I greeted her I blurted out, "Sorry about the chaos of the yard! We're growing kids today; we'll grow grass tomorrow". As I spoke those words, I realized that this was the philosophy by which I parented, and always had. Join me and see if you find some thoughts and ideas on growing your kids today and leaving the grass to grow later.
